Gents,
Saturday is shaping up to be nce one so some buddies and I are going to work our way out towards the Triangle wreck. I have never fished there before but I feel it is time to try something a little different. I was just hoping you fellas could tell me what type of fish may be lurking out there. i was hoping to get a shot at some kings or maybe some Mahi. Any tips or advice? Appriciate your responses.

I have never fished the Triangles, but have dove them extensively. Usually lots of amberjack and some king mac's at 50 feet down above the wrecks. Wreck is heavily infiltrated with togs, very good sea bass and nice flounders laying in among the structure. Your anchor postioning on the structure is key - if you are 5 feet out of the cover - the bottom is flat white, totally lifeless, sand - looks like a white Walmart parking lot with no stripes. We of course never saw any peligics, as they are fast moving predators. You may luck up on some chicken dolphin there, but I would say you are too far inshore for a consistent bite on them. If you want dolphin, continue 20 more miles (its going to be a lake on Sat anyway so once you 30 miles what's 50?) to the 21 fathom finger and try to find scattered grass. Much better shot there.

Thanks, I guess we might troll the wreck and see if we pick up anything and if that doesnt produce we will head out a bit furthers granted the weather folks are right. Will hoos behind seawitches do the trick

Ballyhoo behind a seawitch is good for most anything, but usually when its August hot water like this, it is tough to pull fish (other than dolphin, which as I said, you are in the wrong place for) through. That's why there is mostly billfishing going on now. The hotter the better for billfishing.
I would say at the Triangles -put down 2 planers - 1 with a 3 1/2 in silver drone spoon (use a good ball-bearing swivel half-way in the leader as they spin like a bitch and will twist the leader completely-up) this is your king mac rig - on the other planer - run a ballyhoo behind a red and black Islander about a 100 feet back. You might want to rig it with four feet of #12 wire in front,. This bait is a wahoo killer. If you are not hit by 10:00am move to the fingers. It ain't gonna happen at the triangles.

Just some thoughts.

If you guys see anything floating on the water, except Balloons, stop and toss out a few chunks of ballyhoo. Have some 6/0 or 7/0 hooks prerigged on spinning gear. I use an octopus skirt over a 1/2 oz eggsinker then the hook. Put a chunk of ballyhoo on the hook and try for dolphin. On the ride out to fish most people are constantly looking for floating objects to bail dolphin from. You can probably find dolphin under anything 20 miles and further out. We have bailed dolpin within site of the CLT.

I hear there is going to be a large concentration of billfish and Tuna around the 17th and 18th of August at the Triangle wrecks. If I were fishing in a tournament that is where I would set out my spread for the day and never never leave it....I'm just saying....bob
