Rode out of Rudee at 0430 with George (marlin maniac) John (Carolinaman) and Mark (M's Pride), making way to the weather bouy. We stoped of at the weed line west of the Cigar on the way, trolled for about 30 min and then made way to the weather bouy. We dropped baits 2 miles west of the bouy and trolled straight for it. After we passed the bouy we made a ESE treak to find the weed line everyone was on in the deep water east of 100F. We had a white in the spread munching on the blue and white get reel mini bar, George had him on for a second, then he moved over to the blue and white jethead with meat and crushed the hoo on it, he did not come tight and then disappeared. We then made it to the weedlines without any other strikes trolled the weeds with no hits, settled on bailing dolphin. It took a few hours to get 30 bailers in the box, they were hard to get on a hook, they loved the chunks, but seemed to not like the hooked chunks.
At 1400 we set baits and trolled halfway back to the bouy and then pulled baits and made way to the inlet.
Saw hundreds of whales in the water, and bait everywhere on the ride in. Its seemed like there was alot of life west of the cigar.
It was a great day

We didn't do squat Eric. We commited to the troll looking for a white. We did have two knockdowns on the shotgun that didn't stay tight. Had a couple tuna air out on fliers right in front of us on the troll back in and just knew for sure they were gonna pile on our baits but didn't.

Thanks for dragging me out Eric, it was a great day fishing. For those of you who don't know, Eric, John and Mark will keep you laughing all day, so it's never boring regardless of the fishing! Well, we pulled a 10 rod spread with everything but the kitchen sink, and all we had was a couple of unexplained knockdowns, some teeth marks in a big wahoo plug and a white who was tasting but not eating. The white came up on, you guessed it, a blue and white Get Reel mini-bar, smacked around one of Mark's shooters, tried an unnatural act on a Flying Fish daisy chain (thanks MegaBite) and came back and bit the Minibar. I dropped it back to him and he slammed it, but didn't come tight when I reared back on him. We trolled to about 15 miles east of the Cigar, out in the deep and came upon some of the prettyest water I've seen in a long time. Absolutely crystal clear, deep emerald blue water with large patches of weed and bait schools under them packed tight like bunker in December. Just no predator fish. No bills, no tuna, no gaffer dolphin, no wahoo, just lots of hot water and the occasional stray pack of bailers. Nice sized, soon to be gaffer dolphin in the 5 pound class. Great fishin' on light tackle. We took what we needed for a few meals and left the rest for you guys. Anyway, I had a great time and am looking forward to fishing the Bluewater classic!

I went north this week on the Fastcast to the Washington and Norfolk Canyons, spent the night at Sunse marina in Ocean City MD, then fished back. Boated a nice 50-60 pound Yellowfin and a 500 pound blue marlin. Kenny Gilbert caught the marlin, his first, in only 18 minutes. Way to rebound from that MOB ordeal! It was my first blue marlin leader, so I was stoked to say the least.

I was all primed and ready to clean fish, armed with a filet knife and several lukewarm Sierra Nevada's... but glad we put it off, got home rather beat, to a housefull of relatives I didn't know were showing up....
Eric - I checked, the going rate for fish cleaning in Ocean View is a 12 pack of PBR for bailers, 12 pack of Bud Light for gaffers and a bottle of Jack Daniels for wahoo.........

Were your bailers larger ( 5 - 7lb range) than usual ? We experienced the same thing on chunks and went to squid strips which they seemed to take more willingly when floating with other squid chum. Hook shy..... but big ....for bailers.

I would say they were mostly 3-5 pound or so, we did see some very small ones under the boat. We saw a few gaffers in the schools, but they were smarter than us.

We went out south on Reelin and Dealin and got two whites and a female angler reeled in her first blue. We got in some good trainging for pirates next week.

Shore Thing got skunked. Worked the canyon to the 44 wreck. No grass lines in this area so we still havn't had a chance to try this 'bailing technique'. Did see some pilot whales (my 1st) at about 50yds away. I think we need a bigger boat
