Just getting started rigging some of my offshore stuff and have a knot question. My largest reel at this time is a 30TW with 500 yds of 80# power pro topped with 40# Suffix mono which I use a double uni knot that so far has not failed. I use an 80# wind on leader with the same knot. What knot do you guys recommend for the 40# to 80# connection? Non of my knots have failed, but I haven't tied into a 100# plus fish yet. Thanks, Barry

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Seriously, a uni to uni is a great connection. I use it alot on my casting/inshore gear. You can also use a Bimini to Bimini connection with a Catspaw actually connecting the 2 Biminis. Its a little more difficult to tie a Bimini, but worth learning. It maintains 100% of the lines breaking strength.

You can also use an Albright knot to join the 2.

Get a book by Vic Dunaway called " Complete Book of Baits Rigs and Tackle" It's a complete guide for everything fishing. Has a great section on tying knots.

Here's a couple of links for animated knots...

I use a uni to uni and I've never had one fail.
