I think I use 3-4ft on the Green Machine I would use what ever color bird the hot color is at the time. Right now I use blue.

I use 200# to Rig the bird. I run a solid piece of leader through the two eyes and another piece crimped on both sides. Im prety sure the boone birds come with rigging instructions. Put a swivel on the front side and a snap on the back.

I have a free bird / green machine combo for you....and as a bonus....I have a free tiagra 50 you can have.

It's on the 200 line about 250 fathoms. Go claim it. fishing4.gif fishing2.gif

WAY TOO FUNNY Mike.......... Your a pretty good sport. As tight as I am with a dollar I'd still be crying over that spilt milk.

As for GM's, in my roughly 15 offshore trips (this is my 3rd season) I have put that (With a pink bird...15ft of leader...with meat) in my starter spread every trip on the 'wayback' and have yet to get bit on it. I'll continue to keep it there....... Anthony, at Princess Anne Dist., said some guys have put it on the flats w/bird, and have had some decent sucess. I did that this weekend. On the other flat I put a GM on the back of a green/yellow shooter chain. Of course the tuna bite was slow this weekend but we'll keep working at it hoping to get our catch rate up.

I hear a lot of guys using the green machine/bird combo and doing well with it. It has the advantage of not washing out like meat will. For me the only thing I drag behind a bird is a blue/white Ilander with a horse hoo or a spanish mackeral, WWTFB. I've got some huge tunas and blue marlins on that combo!

It's always a good stand-by run on the WWB for several reasons. The splash back there helps the fish to scope out how big the bait ball is you are trying to create with your spread. You have teasers and splash up front and way way back. That is said to push their attack into the front or middle of your spread. Faster fish will come in from below the back and slash in from the sides. I feel the Bird/GM combo gets hit when the fish think it's their last chance for a tasty meal or fish coming in from real deep as the spread passes over get to the back of the spread first. Good luck using that great combo!
Tight lines.

Although I like Green machines (they flat out catch fish), the past 3 trips I've run a blue/white Ilander flasher back there behind the bird with a large bally (select). I only run it back past the long riggers like maybe 50ft. Wahoo and some nice tunas have fallen to this rig. I rigged it with 250 pound ande...fish did not seem to mind the heavier leader which I believe is hidden by the turbulence of the bird.

Good luck out there.
