Want to know if it is safe to go out to the Chesapeake Light Tower with a 19 Ft Bayliner Cuddy. It can safely handle the Bay with 1-2 or 2-3 ft seas. Have Merc 135Hp stern, VHF, etc.. Noticed another thread on 18 ft bass boat got great response and wondered the same about the Bayliner. Also, what are the GPS coordinates? Appreciate your input.

I would go, and have been out there in a boat like that. I would look for the best days to do it. We came back one time when the winds picked up, it was not fun, but do-able. We lost a spear gun over the side, one a buddy insited I borrow from him to take on the trip, then he insisted I buy him a new spear gun.

I agree with Eric. You should have no problem fishing the CLT on a reasonable day. The issue with the bass boat is the tiny amount of freeboard. Your Bayliner is much better suited for inshore waters. Tight lines and good luck!

If you really have to ask this question, you probably have no business being out there............

Thanks for the replies. Without some expert advice, I'd never have business going out there. Greatly appreciated. Hope to see you out there.

I fished the light tower in a 21 ft bayliner at least 10 times a year for 8 years. Had a few days that got my attention but not very many and even then it was my fault --I sometimes went on small craft warnings - so you really can't blame the boat. Watch the weather and seas forecast--easily done.

My neighbor some years ago fished the CLT from a 13ft whaler. I wouldn"t. If you pick your days you will be alright, but if you get caught 10-17 miles offshore in a late afternoon (Or other) blow, you might be in trouble.

I have been out 30 miles in newer 18 footers on the right days. Wear life vest plus take all the safety gear. EPIRB, flares etc.

I have been atleast 30 miles out in a 10-12 foot zodiac in 3-4ft seas. There was 10 boats plus a 40' boat there for safety.
We also managed to pull up a spear gun and 2 fish poles one with a tld 25 on it from the bottom of the light tower one day while diving.
Its really up to your comfort level and listen to the radio dont get caught and just pick the right days.
