Hi, has anyone used any of the inexpensive handheld gps units (Garmin eTrex Venture or other recommendation) as a backup? I currently have a Lowrance gps/plotter, and it works great...except when I really need it. I find it loses coverage from time to time fishing the bridge tunnel but this is mostly just a nuisance. But loosing coverage 18+ miles offshore is more than a little frustrating if you are trying to locate structure. I'm looking for something that will give me an accurate speed reading, and can track to a handful of entered waypoints. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks,

Dave

There are Garmins, and there are ding-a-lings. The E-Trex works great - I have one and it has never let me down - not one single time.

second vote for etrex. The basic or the marine with nav aids.
