  1. Hatteras island is full of fish right now water temp is 71 degrees. False albacore bluefish Spanish mackerel sharks sheepshead have all been landed. Also a big cobia was hocked with a gotcha rod and was lost in a gaff attempt also reports of drum 20 to 35 inches in the sound
  2. Wow! Thank you for the kind words. Looks like a great start for 2014. We just reopened the pier, so I'm looking forward to a little fishing.

    Shark fishing?

I'd try the Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. The pier has been closed for a long time but you can still use the parking lot. Easy kayak launch from the beach.
  4. This spring and summer I'll be pin rigging for Cobia and Kings. This fall will be Red Drum. May be a little sharkin in there sometimes.

    Hey Shocker

I have a source in Avon who may have one. He is checking. If that falls through I will be interested. May have a buyer for the 14/0 as well. Thanks.

Still catching them in Rodanthe. They have been around since about Labor day.
  7. There still around you need to get to hatteras Island. 46 and 49 inch drum landed last night, with 2 people drum fishing.
  8. I met Al this spring he is a gerat guy. That was the guy from the North Carolina Pier Fishing Society.
  9. Good feedback. I am guilty of this myself. I do like the idea of pier cart parking spaces.
  10. About $1200 per foot of length.

    BBNWR Closed ? ? ?

Andrew, I have not heard the forcast for this weekend. Let me know if you want to go to Rodanthe?
  12. The Park Service Effectively Closed the National Park due to the government shutdown. Also effected was the Avon Fishing Pier and the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, as they have a concession agreement with the park service. All Ramps are chained off and signs are being posted not to park on the side of the road and walk over the dune. A lot of pissed off people on Hatteras Island today. The Rodanthe pier and behind private property are the only places fishing is accessable on the island.
  13. Pier rules are a learning expirience for us. We are lucky enough to have a great staff of people work for us, and owners that are at the pier most days. Consistantly enforcing the rules can be tough because some people don't read the rules, and some people are dishonest.
  14. I'm one of the owners of the Rodanthe Pier on Hatteras Island. We put a daily fishing report on our website and post pictures on facebook. Any pier operator will tell you that 95% of the problems come from the last 30 feet. There are many sides to the pier pirate issue. The biggest thing to me is good pier etiquette from everyone. If you don't like the acceptable etiquette from the regulars, find another pier to fish from. I've fished all of them from Ocean View (used to be Harrison's pier) to Frisco Pier, and I've seen exactly what you described. I've been going to Rodanthe for about 8 years now, because I like fishing with the people there. I'm not sure if Sandbridge pier is public or a privately owned small bussines. I can tell you that it is impossible to make everyone happy on a fishing pier.
  15. And 8 big drum on Rodanthe Pier in in the last two days.
  16. I netted a 44 inch drum for Adam Schechter friday night. We had about 15 mph NE wind. Fish was caught about 9:30 PM right about high tide, water temp was about 72 degrees. About five minutes before this fist I had a good run and then a clean bite through 100# leader. Saturday night was south wind and only sting rays and 2 to 3 foot sharks.
  17. This years drum season is starting good.
  18. Cape Point is closed again for turtle nesting. Reports are that it will be closed for ORV traffic for about a week.
  19. Sorry to hear about your rods. Give Jim a call at Rodanthe Pier. I think he works Wendsday and Thursday. He has fixed some rods that were broken at the joint. He builds rods for Haterras Jack's.
  20. Good news from Rodanthe. Keeper puppy drum every day this week. Also keeper floader, pompano, spot, croacker, bluefish, and small sharks. More good news! the Ocean Rescue guys have cut off the 4 longest of the old piles from when the pier was much longer years ago. If you have fished there the pile that was visible at low tide about 100 yards out is gone. No more lost drum on that sucker. Still more good news! The weekend forcast is calling for 15mph NE wind. Looks like I'll be soaking a spot head, looking for that early bull. And still more news last week a guy pin rigging had a 7 foot black tip eat his bluefish jumping completely out of the water. The jump unfortunately caused a tangle with the next pin rig and the beast got away.
  21. This weekend I was fishing with some of the Rodanthe regulars and we were talking about the spot or lack of spot this year. A little while later my mom showed up at the pier, so I baited her up a rig and one of the guys handed me a bag of bloodworm fishbites. Very soon my mom started catching decent size spot. I filled every live bait bucket and we started throwing the bigest ones in the cooler for her to take home. No one else was catching spot until they started using fish bites, One guy was using the pink ones, i think they are shrimp. I cleaned 43 spot that night. The next day around the same time my mom and my wife started catching them again. And again Fishbites was outfishing anything else. I've used fishbites before, but i've never seen the fish prefer them as much. Any one else experience this?

    Hatteras report.

You may want to try for some Pompano in the surf. They like shrimp and sand fleas. They are usually close to the edge of the surf. I caught a small one in my sand flea rake this weekend.

    Corolla NC Fishing

Cobbs are being sold in all the tackle shops. I'm guessing they are being netted in the sound. The smaller finger mullet sould be around by mid september. I'm not sure about shrimping up that way.

    Hatteras report.

There is a sound side acces area just south of Salvo. I've not fished there, but I know a lot of people use that area. Another area is called Canadian Hole its just north of Buxton. If the wind is blowing it will be crowded with wind surfers and Kiteboarders. I'm sure there are many more south of that, but I don't get past Buxton very often. Check with Frank and Fran's tackle or Red Drum tackle for more info.
