Chicks Beach Report

Recommended Posts

Went out Saturday and Sunday afternoon (4pm til dark). Tons of crabs, small croakers, lots of Spot mixed in with Roundheads. Artificial bloodworm (Burkley Gulp) or real cut squid did the trick. Filled two coolers in about 4 hours. If you are fishing, and don't get a bite within a few seconds, it means the crabs have chased the fish off and they are eating your bait. Reel in quick to make them let go. I waded out to about chest deep and casted as far as I could, but they were pretty much biting everywhere (you don't really need to get in the water, just cast from shore). There are some small trout out there too (got 2 of them, but they were undersized). Used a popping cork with a Burkley Gulp shrimp for the trout. If you are into the crabbing thing, tie some chicken thighs on about 20 ft of fishing line and throw out...wait about 30 seconds and slowly retrieve until you see the crabs and then use a net to scoop them up. There are a lot so check each crab for size and egg rules before throwing in the cooler...you can be picky there are a ton out there!
